European Countries Acknowledge Guaido as Venezuelan President

Brussels, MINA – The number of key European Union countries have recognized Juan Guaido as the temporary President of Venezuela.

This support arises the global conflict over President Nicolas Maduro who has won elections though many accuse cheating.

France, Spain, Germany, Britain, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, and, Netherlands took coordination step to support Guaido on Monday, Al Jazeera reported.

The coordination was done a day after the end of an eight-day ultimatum for Maduro to hold new elections.

Latvia and Lithuania also supported Guaido, the provisionally declared president and received strong support from the United States and many South American countries.

European countries urge Guaido to hold free and fair elections as soon as possible.

“We are working for the return of full democracy in Venezuela: human rights, general elections, and no more political prisoners,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said in an announcement on television.

German Chancellor, Angela Merkel also said during her visit to Japan on Monday that Guaido is a legitimate interim president.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron stated his Twitter account, Venezuela has the right to express freely and democratically.  (T/Sj/R04)
