Khashoggi case must be investigated in 'independent, impartial manner,' says UN human rights chief

Genewa, MINA — The murder investigation of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi must be done in an independent and impartial manner, the UN human rights spokeswoman told Anadolu Agency on Friday.

Quoting UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet, Elizabeth Throssell said: “The case of Khashoggi must be investigated in an independent and impartial manner to show a full examination of an accountability for the human rights violations committed.”

She added that the involvement of international experts with full access to the evidence and witnesses would be “highly desirable”.

Throssell added that Khashoggi’s family and the public should know all facts about the murder and that justice must be ensured.

Earlier on Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told news channel CNN Turk that an international investigation in this case would be more useful as Saudi Arabia has not provided information about the murder of the journalist.

Khashoggi, a frequent contributor to The Washington Post, was killed on Oct. 2 shortly after he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
