150 Prisoners from 1948 Occupied Palestine in Israeli Jails
Occupied Jerusalem, MINA – There are 150 Palestinian prisoners from the 1948 occupied territories languishing in Israeli jails including 14 of the longest-serving prisoners and 12 sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Palestinian Prisoner Society said that the Israel Prison Service pursues the worst forms of racism against the 1948 occupied Palestine prisoners and refuses to include them in any prisoner swap deals.
Karim Younis from ‘Ara village in the northern 1948 occupied Palestine is the longest-serving prisoner who has been detained since 1983.
An Israeli court had ordered to sentence him to death by hanging but a month later it decided to sentence him to life imprisonment. A few years ago the sentence was decided to be 40 years.
The number of Palestinian prisoners who have lost their lives while in Israeli custody increased to 215 in 2018, 75 of whom were executed after arrest, 72 died under torture, 61 died because of medical negligence and 7 died after being deliberately shot by Israeli soldiers and guards inside detention centers.(R/R04/RS5)
