US, Others Will Take “Future Actions” to Deal With “Very Grave” North Korea Threat – White House

Washington, MINA – There will be “future actions” by the US and others to apply as much pressure as possible to reach the ultimate goal of a denuclearized Korean Peninsula, KUNA reported, quoting Raj Shah, White House deputy press secretary, Wednesday.

The North Korean threat “is very grave” and affects not only the US and Korean Peninsula region but “the entire world,” Shah said during a briefing aboard Air Force One en route to Missouri, where President Donald Trump was to give a speech promoting tax cuts legislation.

“We are encouraged that more countries are taking more significant steps to help apply as much maximum pressure as we can on North Korea,” Shah said.

“The maximum pressure campaign that the United States is part of has really yielded a lot of results,” he said.

“We’ve seen the toughest sanctions ever imposed on North Korea (that) the Chinese and the Russians have signed onto. China has restricted energy shipments to North Korea.

“We are seeing dozens of countries engaged in different efforts. There are bilateral ties to North Korea to cut off both energy, economic ties and diplomatic ties.”

Shah’s remarks came in the wake of the latest North Korean missile launch early Wednesday.

Experts calculated that the missile, which North Korea called a Hwasong-15, had the capability to reach any point in the continental US. (T/RS5/RS1)
