TUNISIA: ISLAMISTS SUPPORT STATE OF EMERGENCY
Tunis, 20 Ramadan 1436/7 July 2015 (MINA) – Tunisia’s Ennahda movement has expressed its support and understanding of President Beji Caid Essebsi’s decision on Saturday to declare a one-month state of emergency following the terrorist attacks that harmed the country’s security and stability.
In a press statement released on Sunday, Ennahda called on all Tunisian citizens to support the state’s institutions and democratic choices. It also called for continuous vigilance and for backing the state’s security and military establishment.
The Islamist movement stressed that the Tunisian people reject terrorist thought and actions, and that “there is no future for terrorism in Tunisia.
It will be defeated, God willing, as long as we continue with our war against it, develop plans and means and prevent it from spreading fear and panic in society.” Middle East Monitor (Memo) reports as quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA).
On Saturday, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi declared a state of emergency in Tunisia, one week after the armed attack on a tourist resort in the coastal city of Sousse, which left tens of foreign tourists dead and wounded. The majority of the victims were British citizens. (T/P002/R03)
