TENSION FLARES UP IN RAYMOND JAIL AS ISRAELI TROOPS STORM SECTION 4
Ramallah, 3 Jumadal Awwal 1436/22 February 2015 (MINA) – Tension has hit climactic heights in the Israeli Raymond lock-up after Israeli forces stormed Section 4 and attacked a detainee, a human rights group said Saturday (21/2).
Israeli special forces broke into Section 4 at the Raymond jail allegedly to check out windows shortly before they attacked a Palestinian prisoner, affiliated with the Islamic Jihad, and dragged him to the cell, a statement issued by the Ahrar Center for Prisoner Studies and Human Rights reported, Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
The assault occurred after members of the Islamic Jihad filed a petition to the prison authorities in protest at the transfer of prisoner Zayd Bseiso. Tension swept across the jail in the process.
The Israeli wardens broke into the prison cells after detainees held in section 4, mostly Hamas and Islamic Jihad affiliates, peacefully voiced objection over the assault, yelling Islamic chants and knocking on prison gates, the statement further pointed out.
The prison administration pledged to revise tapes of the surveillance cameras to find out about the real perpetrators of the attack.
Prisoners loyal to the Islamic Jihad, meanwhile, decided to chant the name Zayd Bseiso during night counts in solidarity with their fellow detainee.
Head of the Ahrar Center, Fouad al-Khuffash, branded the initiative a challenging and noble move that not only reflects the strong bond of brotherhood between the detainees but also crosses the Israeli prison service’s security count red line.
Al-Khuffash called on the Palestinian masses to rally round the detainees and support the Palestinian prisoners struggle moves. (T/P006/R03)
