Qamishli, Syria, 28 Shawwal 1435/24 August 2014 (MINA) – Under the invitation of Star Union organization, a protest was held in the city of Koban (Ain al-Arab) in Aleppo province in northern Syria, on Friday, condemning the practices of militants of the Islamic State (IS) against Kurdish Yezidi women in Shingal area in northern Iraq.

The protest started from Azadi square in Koben’s center where many women and women organizations participated to condemn practices of IS group, an al-Qaeda offshoot, against people on Shingal, especially Yezidi women –who are reportedly being sold in Mosul’s black market as well as al-Shaddadi and al-Hol areas of Syria’s Hasakah.

The slogans were raised in Kurdish, Arabic and Syrian languages, saying: “Due to silence about the situation of Shingal’s women, let’s come together”, “No to terrorism against Yezidi Kurds”, ARA News quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

Protesters demanded the international community and the legal and humanitarian organizations to take action against the unjust policies and brutal massacres committed against women and children in Shingal.

Speaking to ARA News, member of Kurdistan Women’s Solidarity organization, Sherin Shiwesh, said: “Massacres and humiliation against women in Shingal, and selling them under the Islamis flag by terrorist groups, are immoral practices and irrelevant to Islam.”

“The international silence against those atrocities is a violation of women’s rights as they are similar to the pre-Islam practices against women such as female infanticide,” Shiwesh concluded. (T/P001/P3)
