Syrian Opposition Insists on Toppling Assad
Geneva, 29 Jumadil Akhir 1438/28 March 2017 (MINA) – The opposition delegation partaking in the intra-Syrian talks submitted Monday details to the UN on constitutional measures associated with the political transitional process without the participation of President Bashar Al-Assad or his regime’s members, Kuna reported, citing the stateement of the head of the delegation Naser Hariri.
Speaking at a news conference following meeting with Deputy UN Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin, Hariri said the details include a political transition through a constitutional declaration to govern the process with a popular participation to develop mechanisms of action without the exclusion or suppression of others.
Combating terrorism should also be included in the transition process, with terror of Assad against the Syrian people, blockade imposed by his regime on several cities and towns, starving of people, the so-called Islamic State and armed supporters of the regime, listed, he stressed.
The delegation’s vision is compatible with the UN Resolution 2254 and the Geneva-1 statement, he explained.
The fifth round of the talks kicked off on March 23 and runs until the end of this month. (T/RS5/RS1)
