Kuala Lumpur, MINA — Myanmarese de facto President Aung San Suu Kyi has hailed the army for acknowledging that “extra-law” killings have taken place targeting Muslim Rohingyas in western Rakhine state, KUNA reported.

Government-run Burmese media on Saturday quoted the president as praising the military command for taking the necessary move toward “shouldering our responsibilities.”

The army of Myanmar (Burma) has publicly acknowledged that government troops have killed Rohingya “suspects” in restive Rakhine months ago. There have been outcries for the killing and mass burial of the victims.

Human rights groups have been lashing out at the president, a Noble Prize laureate, for remaining tightlipped toward killings and repressive acts against the Muslim community.

Amnesty International had declared that the recent killing of Rohingyas in Rakhine was the latest of a long chain of such horrific acts since last August.
