Manila, Philippines, 04 Dzulhijjah 1437/06 September 2016 (MINA) — President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday declared Sept. 12, 2016, a Monday, a regular national holiday in observance of the Muslim celebration of Eidl al- Adha.
Citing Republic Act 9849, the Palace was quoted by The Star as saying the country recognizes Eidl al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice as one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.
Eidl al-Adha commemorates Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, in obedience to the order of Allah.
The document, which serves as Proclamation 46, was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Duterte.

This holiday declaration creates another long weekend in the calendar this year (Saturday, September 10-Monday, September 12). (T/R07/R01)
