Manila, Philippines, MINA – President Duterte has declared Friday to be a regular holiday in observance of the Islamic Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) nationwide.

Duterte signed Proclamation No. 297, which ushers in another long weekend for the public following National Heroes Day last Monday, Philstar reported.

In observance of the Muslim holiday, Malacañang noted that Eid’l Adha is one of the two greatest feasts celebrated by Muslim communities here and abroad.

The proclamation stated the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos based its decision on Saudi Arabia’s declaration of Eid’l Adha observance.

Under Republic Act 9849, the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, is declared as national holiday for the observance of Eid’l Adha.

It is the 10th day in the month of hajj or Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca wherein Muslims pay homage to Abraham’s supreme act of sacrifice and signifies mankind’s obedience to God.
