OIC Urges International to Ensure Palestinian Security

Jeddah, MINA – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged International community to terminate the violations of settlers and Israeli occupation forces against security in Palestine.

On Saturday, OIC condemned Israel’s decision not to extend the operation of international observer forces (TIPH) in the city of Hebron, West Bank, after 20 years of standing, Arab News reported on Monday.

OIC also declared Israel’s actions a blatant violation of the Geneva Convention and international law.

They called on the international community to ensure an international presence to protect the Palestinians.

TIPH has deployed unarmed civilian observers since 1997. As 200,000 more Palestinians live in the city of Hebron.

Meanwhile, Palestinians also urged the United Nations to deploy permanent international forces in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

“The United Nations must guarantee the safety and protection of the Palestinian people until the end of Israeli occupation,” Palestinian official Saeb Muhammad Salih Erekat said.

However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would not extend the mandate of the TIPH because he was accused of helping Palestine fight Israel.

“We will not allow the continuation of international forces acting against us,” Netanyahu said. (T/Sj/P2)
