Jakarta, MINA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) fully supports the construction of Indonesia’s Mother and Child Hospital (RSIA) in Gaza City, an initiative to respond to the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.

MUI Chairman for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Prof Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, emphasized that the hospital is more than just medical aid—a symbol of Indonesia’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and a testament to global humanitarian commitment.

MUI fully supports the establishment of RSIA Indonesia in Gaza. This is not just about providing healthcare—it is a moral and political stand to defend the rights of Palestinians, particularly women and children who are the primary victims of this aggression,” he stated during a press conference at the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday.

He highlighted the urgent need for medical facilities in Gaza, which aligns with the resolution of the Egypt Summit, which prioritizes healthcare in the region’s reconstruction efforts.

“The situation in Gaza is dire. Hospitals are destroyed, medical personnel are limited, and many patients, especially mothers and children, are deprived of proper care. RSIA Indonesia is a concrete step toward Gaza’s recovery,” he stressed.

The RSIA Indonesia project, initiated by Maemuna Center Indonesia, the women’s philanthropic wing of Aqsa Working Group (AWG), will be built on 5,040 m² of waqf land donated by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, near Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital in Gaza City.

Designed as a four-story medical facility, RSIA Indonesia will provide critical healthcare services for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children impacted by the war.

Since the Zionist aggression began on October 7, 2023, the death toll has surged to 48,440, with 111,845 injured, the majority being women and children. Many victims have died due to the lack of medical services, with mothers giving birth without anesthesia and children undergoing amputations without pain relief.

Despite challenges such as Israel’s blockade on humanitarian aid, Prof. Sudarnoto remains hopeful that the project will move forward.

“We urge the international community, global humanitarian organizations, and allied nations to support this initiative. The construction of RSIA Indonesia is a powerful statement that the rights of Palestinian women and children cannot be ignored,” he concluded. []
