MAPIM Strongly Deplores ASEAN Stance on Rohingya Issue

The Chairman of MAPIM Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid

Kuala Lumpur, MINA – The 31 st ASEAN summit was held in the Philippine capital of Manila on November 13-14.

According to news released by Reuters a statement of ASEAN did not mention the huge Rohingya exodus from Nyanmar’s Arakan State and the consequent humanitarian disaster in Bangladesh.

The Malaysian Consultation Council of Islamic Organization (MAPIM) very sadly observed that the de facto leader of Myanmar very craftily skipped the grave Rohingya issue in her speech while none of the 10 ASEAN members showed moral courage to raise the issue in the summit.

MAPIM strongly deplores the stance of ASEAN on this manifest ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity and genocide of the Rohingya Muslims by Myanmar regime.

We strogly insist the United Nations to take appropriate steps as it has clearly expressed the Rohingya issue is a text book case of ethnic cleansing.

We also urge OIC member states to extend their helping hand to Bangladesh towards finding a just and lasting solution to this long standing Rohingya crisis.(R/R04/RS5)
