Korea (KOR) Advance to Football Finals
Jakarta, MINA – Korea’s (KOR) Under 23 team advanced to the 2018 Asian Games football finals after defeating Vietnam 3-1 in the semifinal at the Pakansari stadium in Cibinong, West Java, on Wednesday afternoon.
The three goals were scored by Korea’s midfielder Lee Seungwoo in the 7th and 55th minutes, and by striker Hwang Ui Jo in the 28th minute. Vietnam’s goal was scored by midfielder Tran Minh Vuong in the 70th minute.
According to asiangames2018.id, The final will be played on Saturday, Sept. 1. Korea (KOR) will face Japan, who beat the United Arab Emirates in the other semifinal.
Korea’s (KOR) team coach Kim Hak Bum played four players who competed at the 2018 World Cup. They were goalkeeper Jo Hyeonwoo, strikers Son Heung Min and Hwang Hee Chan, and midfielder Lee Seungwoo.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s senior player and captain Nguyen Van Quyet was benched during the first half.
The first half finished 2-0 for South Korea.
In the second half, Vietnam’s coach Park Hang Seo replaced Luong Xuan Truong with midfielder Tran Minh Vuong to strengthen the attack.
But Vietnam’s poor defending meant Lee Seungwoo scored the third goal in the 55th minute.
Tran Minh Vuong salvaged a goal for Vietnam in the 70th minute.
In the last few minutes of the second half, Vietnamese striker Nguyen Cong Phuong was brought on, replacing Nguyen Anh Duc.
