Jusuf Kalla Appreciates Cambodian PM for Attention to Muslim Citizens
Phnom Penh, MINA – The 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla (JK) appreciated Cambodian Prime Minister H.E. Samdech Techno Hun Sen for his attention to the Muslim community in Cambodia.
It was conveyed by JK when in touch with Cambodian Muslim communities at Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Modern Center on Tuesday.
According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), although the number of Muslim communities in Cambodia is very small, the Cambodian government is paying considerable attention.
Accompanied by the Deputy Chairman of DMI, Syafruddin, Jusuf Kalla also invited the Cambodian government to work together in improving the economy and education so that Cambodian society could develop.
“Because of that, our relationship to advance each other’s religion and also our nation is very important. If there are things that needed, especially in the fields of education and good economics, Indonesia is ready to cooperate, “JK said in his remarks.
As the Chairman of DMI, he also invited the priests of the Cambodian mosque to visit and study in Indonesia about how to administer the mosque.
Meanwhile, the Special Senior Minister of the Office of Cambodian Prime Minister Dato Othsman said attention to the Cambodian Muslim community was shown by providing a budget of US $ 6 million annually to provide incentives to Islamic religious teachers.
The Cambodian Muslim population is 5 percent or 16 million of the country’s total population. The number of mosques in the Capital City of Phnom Phen is 15 mosques, while the total of all Cambodia is 600 mosques.
Jusuf Kalla’s presence in Cambodia at the invitation of Prime Minister of Cambodia to share experiences in resolving conflicts in the 2019 Asia Pacific Summit Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Forum in Cambodia which took place from 18 to 19 November 2019.
The 2019 UPF Asia Pacific Summit Forum was participated by 19 countries and take place in the Peace Palace Building, Office of Cambodian PM. (T/Sj)
