Jordan Rejects Attempts Seeking to Alter Historic Status in Jerusalem

Amman, MINA – King Abdullah II of Jordan on Wednesday stressed the country’s rejection of any attempts to alter the historic situation in Jerusalem which honors coexistence, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

At a meeting with Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine, the king highlighted efforts to protect the holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem.

The king emphasized Jordan’s keenness on harnessing the Palestinian unity to face all challenges imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Jerusalemites, stressing that holy Christian Islamic sites receive same due attention as holy Islamic sites in the city.

Jordan, which oversees the holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem, will continue to play its role and defend the assets and properties of the churches in the city at all international fronts.

He added that any attempts to confiscate the assets of the Christians in Jerusalem were invalid and should be ceased.

The Patriarch said the Jerusalemites highly value the Jordanian role in this regard and its support to the Palestinian issue.

He added that Jordan’s efforts support the steadfastness of the Palestinians.

The Patriarch said efforts were underway to prevent plans by Israel to confiscate lands affiliated to the Church and other assets.

He also briefed the king on efforts exerted to stop Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem and to prevent any expansion schemes. (T/RS5/RS1)
