Tel Aviv, 29 Ramadan 1435/27 July 2014 (MINA) – Israel has announced that it will hit northern Gaza Strip “with great force” as it masses troops and tanks on the border with the impoverished Palestinian coastal sliver.

Israel’s chief military spokesman, Brigadier General Motti Almoz, said on Saturday there would be more strikes, especially in northern Gaza near Israel, Press Tv quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Sunday.

“We are going to attack there with great force in the next 24 hours due to a very large concentration of Hamas efforts in that area,” he added.

Late on Saturday, the military said it was ordering Palestinians in northern Gaza to “leave their homes for their own safety.”

Gaza’s Interior Ministry urged residents in the area to ignore Israel’s warnings and to stay in their homes, saying the announcement was Israeli “psychological warfare” and an attempt to create confusion.

A total of 163 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have lost their lives in the impoverished region since Tuesday. Nearly 1,100 others have been also injured in the ongoing deadly air raids.

Israeli tanks have now lined up along the Gaza border, firing into the region. Tel Aviv has also mobilized some 33,000 reservists in preparation for a possible large-scale ground incursion.

Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has warned that it is prepared to hit back at Israeli forces should the Tel Aviv regime launch a ground attack against Gaza.

People in Iran, the US, Jordan, Tunisia, Turkey, France, Indonesia and Britain have taken to the streets, calling for a halt on the Israeli attacks. (T/P012)
