Gaza, MINA — Six Palestinians were killed and several others injured by Israeli army fire in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, marking the first violation of the ceasefire that came into effect on Friday, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to Al Jazeera Arabic, sources at the Ma’amedani Hospital confirmed that five Palestinians were killed by Israeli quadcopter drones in the Shejaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City. The victims were reportedly inspecting their destroyed homes when the attack occurred.

The Israeli army said in a statement that it opened fire to remove the threat after spotting suspicious individuals attempting to cross the so-called yellow line, to which its forces had withdrawn under the terms of the ceasefire. The army claimed its soldiers had fired warning shots before engaging.

In southern Gaza, Palestinian sources reported that one person was killed and several others were wounded by Israeli fire in the town of Al-Fakhari, east of Khan Yunis. The Nasser Medical Complex confirmed that two Palestinians were injured in Khan Yunis in separate attacks.

Israeli tanks also reportedly fired heavily northwest of Rafah, while Palestinian sources said there was additional gunfire and drone activity in the Shakosh area north of Rafah. In northern Gaza, Al Jazeera Arabic cited emergency department sources saying several people were injured by Israeli fire in the Halawa area of Jabalia al-Balad.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem condemned the attacks as a “violation” of the ceasefire agreement.

“The killing by the occupation army of residents of the Gaza Strip this morning through bombing and shooting is a violation of the ceasefire agreement,” Qassem said in a statement.

“We call on the various parties to monitor the occupation’s behavior and ensure it does not evade its commitments to end the war on Gaza.”

UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, Francesca Albanese, denounced the incident, saying Israel “must face sanctions” until full accountability is achieved.

Ceasefire according to Israel means ‘you cease, I fire,’” Albanese wrote on X.

“Calling it peace is both an insult and a distraction. Israel must face justice, sanctions, divestment, and boycott until occupation, apartheid, and genocide are over.”

Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Muhammad Basal said that more than 250 bodies have been recovered since the ceasefire began. He noted that thousands remain under the rubble of buildings destroyed during Israel’s two-year military assault.

Basal said the Civil Defense faces severe shortages of heavy machinery to clear debris, while unexploded ordnance continues to endanger civilians. The United Nations estimates that Gaza currently contains more than 55 million tons of rubble.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 67,869 Palestinians have been killed and 170,105 injured since October 7, 2023.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a ceasefire plan involving the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops.

Under the second phase, the plan calls for the creation of a new governing mechanism in Gaza, deployment of a multinational peacekeeping force, and the disarmament of Hamas.
