Tel Aviv, 24 Safar 1436/17 December 2014 (MINA) – An Israeli court yesterday extended the detention of a female Palestinian student until next Thursday, Arabs 48 reported, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting, Wednesday.

The director of the legal unit in Al-Damir Association for Human Rights, Mahmoud Hassan, said that Lina Khattab was arrested on charges of throwing stones at Israeli soldiers. The court claimed the extension was made to allow time for more investigations to be made.

The 18-year-old Beir Ziet University student was studying journalism when she was arrested on December 13.

Meanwhile, the Ahrar Centre for Detainees Studies and Human Rights said that the Israeli Supreme Court overturned an appeal filed for lecturer Ghassan Thoqan, 57, from Al-Najah University.

Ahrar reported family members saying that the lawyer told them that Israel would renew their father’s administrative detention.

Thoqan is now detained in Al-Naqab Prison and he is suffering from many illnesses and he is sometimes unable to walk.

Israel has previously renewed Thoqan’s administrative detention on two occasions, each for three months. (T/P3/R01)
