Al-Khalil, 15 Dzulhijjah 1436/29 September 2015 (MINA) – Israeli Occupation Authority (IOA) decided on Monday to bar Muslims from entering al-Haram al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil (Hebron) City on Tuesday and Wednesday for the celebration of Jewish holidays.

The Endowment Directorate in al-Khalil said, in a press statement on Monday, the Israeli decision to prevent Muslims from entering the holy site and to keep it open for the Jews is an offensive practice against the Mosque and provocative to Muslims.

The IOA deliberately closes al-Ibrahimi Mosque during Jewish holidays in accordance with the decisions made by the Israeli Shamgar Commission formed after al-Haram al-Ibrahimi Massacre in 1994, The Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted by Mi’ra Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

The resolutions stipulated for dividing the mosque temporally and banning Muslims from accessing it during certain periods.

Hebron is home to roughly 160,000 Palestinian Muslims and some 500 Jewish settlers. The latter live in a number of Jewish-only settlement compounds heavily guarded by Israeli troops.(T/P008/R03)
