Indonesian National Zakat Agency Hold Annual Working Meeting

Denpasar, Bali, MINA – Minister of Religion Affairs Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin has said zakat is the heart of Islamic philanthropy to improve the welfare of society and social and economic justice in national life.

“The management of zakat plays a very significant role to mobilize the potential of religious social funds, especially zakat as an effort to reduce poverty and mitigate social problems of humanity in our country,” said Lukman at the National Working Meeting of the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) in Denpasar, Bali, March 21st.

“I hope Baznas can also coordinate with the regional governments in the implementation of zakat management. This will be optimal if you done it together, “added Lukman.

Bearing the theme “The Strengthening of Zakat Management Organization (OPZ) for the National Welfare Development”, the hree-day meeting will discuss a number of issues, among others new programs, cooperation with other zakat agencies in Indonesia, human resource management.

The meeting was attended by about 700 participants consisting of Baznas officials from central, provincial, district/municipal level of the amil zakat institution (LAZ). (L/RE1/RS5)
