Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs Holds Marriage Age Maturity Campaign

Jakarta, MINA – The Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance, Indonesian  Ministry of Religious Affairs has held a one-day seminar. Bearing the theme “Maturity of the Age of Marriage”, this issue was raised to socialize the campaign as a movement

The Director General of Islamic Education, Muhammadiyah Amin said that this gender mainstreaming program is carried out regularly every year. The theme of Maturity of Marriage Age was raised because it became a very important issue in order to suppress the increase of marriage rate of minors in Indonesia.

This seminar was attended by 300 participants from representatives of Youth Organizations throughout Jakarta and surroundings and Islamic Online Media, Jakarta, Thursday.

“The fact is that the marriages of minors has many disadvantages, such as the fragility of marital institutions, high infant mortality, increasing poverty, etc.,” he said.

Amin explained, the socialization of maturing the age of marriage is one of the government’s efforts to reduce the high rate of minors’ marriage in Indonesia. “It needs to be prevented together”, he said.

The Directorate General of Islamic Education also implements a national priority program in the form of Marriage Guidance which is held by the Office of Marriage Affairs in every Districts.

“The aim of this program is to prevent the high rate of divorce of Indonesian families which has been very worrying lately. The family is the pillar of the nation, if the family divorces, this nation will be destroyed, “he said. (T/P2/R04/RS5)
