Indonesian Govt Decides First Ramadan on Thursday 17 May
Jakarta, MINA – The Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Religious Affairs decides the start of Ramadan 1439 H on Thursday May 17, 2018.
The decision was based on a report on the invisible moon in all region of Indonesia that is delivered at the Plenary deliberation, said Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (15/5).
“Based on the result of rukyatul hilal from 32 points in several places of Indonesia, there is no visible hilal. So the month of Sya’ban 1439 Hijriyah was 30 days. Therefore 1 Ramadan 1439 hijriyah set on Thursday, May 17, 2018 AD, “he said.
The press confernce was led by Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, accompained by Chairman of Commission 8 of House Representative Ali Taher, Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council Abdullah Zaidi and Director General of guidance of Islamic society, Muhammadiyah Amin.
Previously, the plenary deliberation began with the exposure of Rukyatul Hilal Team and Ministry of Religious Affairs about the position of the new moon before the begining of Ramadan 1939 H and continued the result of rukyatul hilal from several regions in Indonesia.
The plenary deliberation was attended by scholars, astronomers, a number of echelon I Ministry officials, leaders from Islamic Organizations and Ambassadors of the Islamic countries.(LT/R04/P2)
