Indonesian Govt Allocates $ 2,3 Billion for Asian Games 2018

Jakarta, 17 Jumadil Akhir 1438/16 March 2017 (MINA) –  Indonesian government has allocated a budget of Rp 30 trillion (US$ 2,3 billion) for the Asian Games in 2018. .

A total of Rp 25 trillion from the budget will be used to build infrastructures and improve the sports arenas in Jakarta, Palembang, Bandung, and Banten.

“The government spent Rp 30 trillion, of which Rp 25 trillion for infrastructures,” said Vice President Jusuf Kalla after a coordination meeting at Youth and Sports Ministry Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, Republika reported.

Jusuf Kalla said the government is also speeding up the construction of a light rail transit (LRT) in Jakarta and Palembang to support the event. He ensured the implementation costs should be in accordance with the capabilities and limits which can be done by the government.

Jusuf Kalla asserted, the budget for the Asian Games 2018, not only from the state budget, but there are also funded from sponsorship, promotion and advertising. He estimated there will be income from tickets which potentially reach to Rp 2 trillion – Rp 2.5 trillion. He emphasized that the government has not calculated the amount of funds from sponsorship for the Asian Games 2018.

He said the efficiency also aims to provide an opportunity for countries to become a host of the big event. Jusuf Kalla said that despite budget efficiency, Indonesian government continues to meet the standards set by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

“We meet those standards but not extravagance. most importantly, how we perform the best,” Kalla said.(T?P2/RS5)
