INDONESIA-IRAN BOOST COOPERATION ON HUMAN RIGHTS

iran-ind-flagTehran,  21 Sha’ban 1436/8 June 2015 (MINA) -The Second Human Rights Dialogue between the Republic of Indonesia and The Islamic Republic of Iran was held on 3-4 June 2015 in Jakarta, both sides agreed to continue sharing experiences and best practices not only through human rights discussions but also other probable venues agreeable to both sides.

“And explore a more concrete cooperation that are mutually beneficial for the people of their respective countries,” Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a statement received by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA.

The Delegation from the Republic of Indonesia was led by Mr. Dicky Komar, Director for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while the Delegation of The Islamic Republic of Iran was headed by H.E. Mrs. Mansureh Sharifi Sadr Director General for Human Rights and Women, Ministry of Foreign Affairs I.R. Iran.

The meeting was carried out in an open, cordial and constructive atmosphere, and provided the opportunity to discuss and exchange information on various issues of both countries’ common interest. Discussions reflected the shared values of human rights and democracy that underpin the relationship between the two countries.

Both sides agreed to continue sharing experiences and best practices not only through human rights discussions but also other probable venues agreeable to both sides,

Both sides also shared the progress made in the implementation of human rights mechanisms in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Non Aligned Movement (NAM). Indonesia also informed the Islamic Republic of Iran of Indonesia’s roles in recent progressive developments of human rights mechanisms in ASEAN.

The two countries  to continue cooperating closely in international institutions dealing with human rights, notably the strengthening of impartial and independent UN Human Rights mechanisms.

The meeting introduced the discussion on Modalities of the Bilateral Human Rights Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Indonesia and both sides agreed to continue the discussion through diplomatic channel.

The programme included a field visit to the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Children or widely known as Panti Sosial Bina Remajaand Social Development Centre for Children or also known as Panti Sosial Marsudi Putra Handayani which are located in Bambu Apus, East Jakarta. Both sides shared sentiments on the need to explore potential cooperation in this regard.

Both sides agreed that the next dialogue round would be held in Tehran in 2016.(L/R04/R03)
