Indonesian Government Decides Eid Al-Fitr 1439 H on Friday

 

Jakarta, MINA – The Ministry of Religious Affairs through the isbat meeting has decided that  Eidl A Fitr 1 Syawal 1439 Hijriah falls on Friday, June 15, 2018, allowing Indonesian Muslims to celebrate the first day of Syawal in ogetherness.

The result of the meeting was conveyed by Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin in a press conference at the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs here Thursday (14/6).

The meeting was held by the government since 1950 with the aim of establishing the first day of Ramadan, Shawwal, and the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah or Eidl Adha.

Also present at a press conference was the Chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulama KH Ma’ruf Amin and Chairman of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives Ali Taher, according to Ministry of Religious Affairs report.

Previously, the Director of Islamic Affairs and Sharia Development Juraidi reported the results of rukyatul hilal or the moonsighting of new moon in a number of locations in Indonesia. In his report, Juraidi said that the crescent moon of Shawwal 1439H was seen by 12 observers in several rukyatul hilal locations, such as in North Sulawesi, East Java, Yogyakarta and Jakarta.

“As reported by the Director of Islamic Affairs and Syariah Development, until the meeting is open, at least we have received 12 testimonies. There are 12 officers of rukyatul hilal, among others, from Gresik-East Java, Yogyakarta, and Jakarta, all claim to have seen the new moon, “explained Menag Lukman.

“Thus, all participants of the meeting agreed and the meeting stipulated that 1 Shawwal 1439H falls on Friday June 15, 2018,” he said again.

Starting from tomorrow, the minister said, Muslims in the country is no longer fasting. and Muslims wll perform the Eid prayers together.

Lukman  expressed gratitude because this year Indonesian Muslims can enter the first day of Shawwal in togetherness. He invites all parties to continue to maintain and maintain togetherness so that positive energy and potential people can be optimized for common interest.

“On behalf of the Minister of Religious Affairs, he extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes  on the ocasion of Eid al-Fitr to all Muslims in the country wherever they are,” said he minister.
