Humanitarian NGOs Pledge USD 262 Million for Syria

Doha, 06 Rajab 1438/03 April 2017 (MINA) – Humanitarian nongovernmental organizations have pledged around USD 262 million’s worth of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people over the next two years.
This came in the final communique of the consultative meeting of humanitarian non-governmental organizations to support humanitarian assistance for Syria, held in the Qatari capital on Sunday, KUNA reported.
The statement stressed that the conference came at a time when there were serious developments in Syria, primarily swift military operations.
It warned of the serious effects of ongoing attempts to change the demography of many Syrian territories.
However, the statement made an array of recommendations, stressing the necessity of stepping up humanitarian efforts and aid to alleviate the sufferings and woes of the Syrian people.
It also highly commended and appreciated the humanitarian efforts of Arab and Gulf humanitarian organizations.
The Doha-hosted consultative meeting of humanitarian non-governmental organizations to support humanitarian assistance for Syria brought together a number of humanitarian organizations and institutions from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon along with representatives of the United Nations.
The meeting, which was held ahead of the upcoming “Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” due on 4-5 April, shed light on the reality of the humanitarian crisis in Syria, the ongoing efforts of GCC humanitarian organizations and institutions.
It also provided participants with the opportunity to announce their pledges and future plans to fulfil commitment and identify additional support. (T/RS5/RS1)
