Forum Wins QR100 Million Pledges for Palestine
Doha, 14 Jumadil Akhir 1438/13 March 2017 (MINA) – Qatar Charity (QC) Sunday announced that the Humanitarian and Development Forum for Palestine, organised in Doha from March 8-10, achieved a host of initiatives and financial pledges amounting to QR100 million.
This would serve various development projects in Palestine, gulf-times.com quoted QC as saying in a press statement.
More than 160 participants took part in the forum, representing 75 government, non-government, national and international entities working in the humanitarian and charity fields.
The participating experts and specialists issued a number of recommendations, upon the conclusion of their discussions in Doha, in the areas of education, health, social welfare and economic empowerment in Palestine.
A Malaysian initiative in education pledged to provide 10 PhD scholarships for Palestinians while the Emergency Response Co-ordination Centre, based in Europe, pledged to provide training for 2mn Palestinians in Gaza.
Also, the Forum of Palestinian Doctors in Europe pledged to train medical staff and school and university students there.
The Karama initiative of Jordan will grant loans to various professionals, and the Turkish child society pledged to offer psychiatric care for children and women on an annual basis.
Further, Hope Endowment in Istanbul pledged to buy endowments to serve education in Palestine, with another organisation committing to different services such as taking care of 2,139 orphans and helping village women get engaged in income-generating agricultural projects. This would benefit some 300 students annually.
Zakat House at the International Zakat Organisation pledged to collate zakat efforts in the Islamic and Arab world for the benefit of Palestinians across various economic development projects. The forum also resulted in various other entities pledging aid and help for the Palestinians in different areas in order to improve their lives.
The forum’s participants appreciated QC’s role in organising such an important annual event, which acted as a platform for relevant entities and experts to discuss the issues concerned and exchange experiences.
The opening of the forum was attended by Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser al-Thani, chairman of Qatar Charity, and other dignitaries.(T/RS5/RS1)
