Fatah Calls for Demonstrations to Protest Britain’s Balfour Declaration Celebrations

Ramallah, MINA – Fatah Central Committee called on Monday for demonstrations outside British embassies everywhere to protest its intention to hold celebrations marking 100 years for its infamous Balfour Declaration, WAFA reported.

A statement issued by the Central Committee said its members expressed their grave dismay at the insistence of the British government to celebrate the anniversary, which marked the start of the Palestinian dispersion and dispossession from their homeland.

On November 2, 1917, years before Britain had occupied Palestine, then British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour promised in a letter to Jewish leaders in the United Kingdom a homeland in Palestine for Europe’s Jews totally disregarding that country’s sovereign status and the existence of its indigenous Palestinian Arab population.

The Central Committee called in its statement “on our people as well as Arab people everywhere to demonstrate outside British embassies to express their utter rejection of that promise and its ramifications, as well as British government refusal to apologize to the Palestinian people and to recognize their right to an independent state and for compensation.”

It recommended litigating this declaration at British and international tribunals.(T./RS5/RS1)
