ERC WARNS EGYPT ‘POLITICISED JUDICIARY’ WILL HAVE DIRE CONSEQUENCES
Cairo, 2 Rajab 1436 / 21 April 2015 (MINA) – The Egyptian Revolutionary Council has warned the Egyptian authorities against the issuing of politicised and unjust sentences including that of Dr Mohamed Morsi who is expected to be sentenced tomorrow.
“The kidnapping of the elected president by the leader of the coup d’état, Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, on 3 July 2013 is null and void, and likewise all legal proceedings that resulted from that act of kidnap,” a press statement by the group said, Middle East Monitor (MEMO) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.
Head of the ERC Dr Maha Azzam said that issuing mass death sentences to those who oppose the military regime in trials that lack due process will incur dire consequences.
The organisation has called upon the international community to uphold its moral responsibility in responding to the deteriorating human rights condition in Egypt before the situation worsens. (T/P002/R03)
