Diwali Day: Kashmir Government Hope would be a Harbinger of Peace

Srinagar, 29 Muharram 1438/30 October 2016 (MINA) – Diwali, the festival of lights symbolizing the victory of truth over evil, is being celebrated on Sunday.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has felicitated people on the auspicious occasion wishing them peace, happiness and well-being. Greater Kashmir reported as quoted by MINA.

Governor N. N. Vohra has extended warm greetings to the people on Diwali and hoped that this auspicious occasion would be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the State.

National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah have also greeted the people of the State on the joyous occasion, hoping that the festival will further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity.

Extending greetings to people of the State on the eve of Diwali, JKPCC Chief G A Mir hoped that this occasion popularly known as  festival of lights will bring all happiness, prosperity and development to the people and State.

“J&K has a unique identity and a symbol of communal harmony, togetherness and the festivals  further strengthen the age-old tradition of brotherhood and unity in the State,” he added.

PCC Chief hoped that this occasion will be the harbinger of overall development of the State and people.

Meanwhile, In last 113 days of unrest in Kashmir about 2400 FIRs have been registered and above 10,000 people arrested, according to police data.

Among them, about 1500 persons are still in police stations and jails, the rest have been released on bail.

The arrests, according to the data, have been made in all districts of Kashmir.

During the ongoing unrest, more than 2240 incidents of clashes and protests have taken place.
