China, Russia Boycott US Conference in Bahrain

Ramallah, MINA – China’s Ambassador to Palestine Guo Wei said that China and Russia would not participate in the US-sponsored June 25-26 meeting in Manama, Bahrain.

Wei announced this during a meeting with Nabil Shaath, the main adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

“Boycotting Bahrain conference and not participating in it is within the framework of Russian-Chinese bilateral agreement,” Wei said as quoted by WAFA.

Wei stressed that Beijing supports the struggle of Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Earlier last week, the US announced their plan to hold an important conference in Manama, Trump administration are expected to uncover the economic aspects of “Deal of Century”, a proposed US-Palestinian Israeli peace plan.

Apart from Bahrain hosting, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have announced their intention to send representatives to the event.

Last Thursday, Secretary General Executive Committee of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Saeb Erekat announced that Palestinians would not participate in the US-led conference. (T/Sj/P2)
