Emirati Philanthropist to Build 120 Houses for Sri Lanka’s Northern IDPs
Colombo, 17 Sha’ban 1438/14 May 2017 (MINA) – An Abu Dhabi based philanthropist has stepped in to support Northern IDPs of Sri Lanka while praising the ethnic unity in the country.
“We are looking at giving ongoing support to displaced people of the North-Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim,” colombopage.com reported, iting UAE businessman and philanthropist Mahmoud Fate Hali Abdulla Al Khajeh during discussions with Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Commerce and Vanni district MP Rishad Bathiudeen.
Al Khajeh, who is leading a four member family delegation of philanthropists to Sri Lanka held discussions with Minister Bathiudeen in Colombo on 12 May.
Praising the President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for leading the country in unity, the Emirati businessman said they will build 120 houses for the needy people in North as an initial step in their humanitarian assistance.
“Our aim is to offer humanitarian aid to the united people of this beautiful country. We are looking at giving ongoing support to displaced people of the North-Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim. Thereafter, we are planning to give them a water supply system for both types of uses-water for drinking and for irrigation,” Al Khajeh has said.
Thanking Minister Bathiudeen for inviting and facilitating them to visit and see the situation of the Northern Internally Displaced People in Mannar area, the UAE businessman has said that after his visit they decided to give humanitarian support to the Internally Displaced People in North.
Minister Bathiudeen thanking the UAE philanthropist Al Khajeh and his family for their assistance towards the Northern displaced, also expressed appreciation to the President, Prime Minister and other leaders of UAE for extending their spirit of humanitarian support to Sri Lankan people.
The Minister pointing out that even after 25 years of displacement, some IDPs are on the road in the North said housing is a critical issue faced by these Internally Displaced families.
“I greatly welcome your intention to start humanitarian support for them with 120 houses. Water is a major need and also expensive infrastructure work, and your assistance in this will solve this critical issue for them as well,” the Minister told the UAE philanthropist. (T/RS5/RS1)
