OIC Slams Israel’s Provocative Actions against Holy Al-Aqsa

Jeddah, 13 Dzulqa’dah 1437/16 August 2016 (MINA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned on Monday recurring and dangerous attacks waged by the Israeli occupation forces and radical settlers on the Holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, calling on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to intervene immediately to stop the aggression.

Such attacks by the settlers have recently increased with aim of holding Talmudian prayers in the sacred mosque courtyards and hindering entry of the Muslim worshippers into the mosque, KUNA quoted the OIC as saying in a statement.

It added that the Israelis have detained guards, banned renovation works and barred the Muslims from opening “Bab Al-Ghawanmeh” gate.

The statement quoted Chairman Iyad Madani as condemning such dangerous Israeli measures that breach “the historic status of the mosque,” provoke the Muslims’ sentiments and constitute brazen breach of relevant Geneva conventions and international laws.

Madani warned such recurring and provocative Israeli practices and desecration of the holy site might lead to an explosive situation at the regional level, urging the Security Council to move quickly to stop the repeated Israeli attacks against the Islamic and Christian sanctities in occupied Jerusalem, as well as their racist acts “and genocides against the Palestinian people and their holy sites.”

The OIC will follow up on the issue in coordination with the State of Palestine, he added.

Zealous Jewish settlers have burst in the courtyards of the holy mosque, desecrating its sanctity and triggering clashes with Palestinians that resulted in injuries among them. (T/R07/R01)
