Jeddah, 20 Jumadil Akhir 1437/30 March 2016 (MINA) – The Palestinian cause and Al-Quds Al Sharif will top the agenda of the 13th Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit due in Istanbul, Turkey on April 10-15, an OIC official said on Wednesday.

The Summit is likely to see intensified efforts to hold an international conference for peace in a bid to reach mechanisms to provide due protection for the Palestinian people and to end the Israeli occupation of the lands seized in 1967, in line with the UN resolutions and the Arab Initiative, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Al-Quds Al Sharif affairs Samir Bakr Diab said in a press statement.

The OIC is carrying on with efforts seeking a UN Security Council resolution to end the Israeli occupation with a time framework, ambassador Diab added.

It also supports Palestine efforts to join international agreements and organizations in a bid to boost the legal eligibility of the State of Palestine on the world level, Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) reported, quoting KUNA.

The Istanbul Summit will discuss the continuous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and shrines in Jerusalem, especially settlements and other activities that target the Arab, Islamic identity and the geographic nature and demographic structure of the Old City.

In addition, the Summit will address strategic plans to develop the City and means to back the Palestinian people’s steadfastness on their own land, Diab added.  (T/R07/R01)
