Ashrawi Calls on Paraguay to Retract Decision to Open Embassy in Occupied Jerusalem
Ramalah. MINA — PLO Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi Sunday called on Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes to retract his decision and take the necessary steps to hold Israel accountable for its flagrant violations of human rights and crimes against humanity, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
In response to Paraguay’s announcement that it will open its embassy in occupied Jerusalem on Monday, Ashrawi said, “By adopting such a provocative and irresponsible measure that is in direct contravention of international law and consensus, Paraguay has conspired with Israel, the United States and Guatemala to entrench the military occupation and to seal the fate of occupied Jerusalem.”
She suggested, “Rather than generating tensions and volatility throughout the region and beyond, Paraguay should stand on the side of justice and dignity and work to promote the chances for peace and stability.”
Ashrawi appealed to members of the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement, and all countries that respect international law and the will of the international community to sever relations with the countries that support Israel’s unilateral annexation of occupied Jerusalem.
