aceh-increased.html/aceh-3" rel="attachment wp-att-89769">aceh.gif" alt="aceh" width="250" height="250" />Jakarta, 07 Rabi’ul Awwal 1438/07 December 2016 (MINA) – At least 25 reportedly killed, and hundreds injured as magnitude-6.4 quake hit Aceh province on Wednesday, pidie-jaya/">Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pidie Jaya Puteh A Manaf said.

Most of the casualties found in buried buildings. Hence the search focused on building houses and shops collapsed in some areas in Pidie Jaya. He said volunteers continue to search and evacuate victims allegedly buried under the rubble.

No tsunami warnings or advisories have been issued in the district of Pidie Jaya, . The epicenter was 12 miles (19 kilometers) southeast of the town of Sigli in Aceh province.

Aceh province is no stranger to natural disasters — in 2004 more than 80,000 people were killed after a tsunami swept across the Indonesian region, leaving millions homeless.

Large earthquakes are relatively common around Indonesia, which sits on the infamous Ring of Fire, a set of fault lines which circle the Pacific Basin.

In addition to those killed, hundreds injured currently being treated at the General Hospital of Pidie Jaya and TGK Chik Ditiro Hospital in Sigli, Pidie City.(T/R04/R03)
