UNRWA Lauds EU Contribution to Palestinian Refugees in Syria

Brussels, 03 Rajab 1438/31 March 2017 (MINA) – The European Union has donated 10 million euro (USD 10.6 million) to the aid programmes in Syria of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

This contribution will support the Agency’s programmes, activities and services, including providing medicine, health and education facilities, contributing to better livelihood opportunities for youth, and granting cash assistance to Palestine refugees affected by the conflict in Syria, KUNA quoted UNRWA representative office to the EU as saying a statement Thursday.

Duccio Bandini, the Head of Development Cooperation for the European Union Delegation to Syria, said: “With donations accounting for EUR 910 million (USD one billion) since 2007, the EU continues to stand by Palestine refugees in Syria and provide massive support to UNRWA service delivery to this extremely vulnerable population.”

The Director of UNRWA Affairs in Syria, Mohamed Abdi Adar, expressed his gratitude to the European Union for its constant support to Palestine refugees.

“This latest donation is a reiteration of the European Union’s strong belief in Palestine refugees. UNRWA is grateful for this generous contribution, ” he said. (T/RS5/RS1)
