Trump Says “We Will Take Care of” North Korea Missile Launch

Washington, MINA – US President Donald Trump said Tuesday Washington “will take care of” North Korea missile launch.

In remarks he gave at the White House, Trump said that he just had a “long discussion” about it and it is a “situation we will handle.” When asked if the missile launch changed his approach to North Korea, Trump responded that his approach to North Korea has not changed.

For his part, the Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said that the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was shot “higher frankly than any previous shots” North Korea has taken.

He added that North Korea’s continued effort to develop weapons “endangers world peace, regional peace and certainly the United States.”

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a statement that the US “strongly condemns” North Korea’s missile “indiscriminately threatening its neighbors, the region and global stability.”

He stressed that North Korea “relentless pursuit of nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them must be reversed.

“Together the international community must continue to send a unified message to North Korea that the DPRK must abandon its WMD programs. All nations must continue strong economic and diplomatic measures. In addition to implementing all existing UN sanctions, the international community must take additional measures to enhance maritime security, including the right to interdict maritime traffic transporting goods to and from the DPRK,” he stressed.

He noted that the US, in partnership with Canada, will convene a meeting of the UN Command Sending States to include the Republic of Korea and Japan and other key affected countries “to discuss how the global community can counter North Korea’s threat to international peace.”

The US top diplomat affirmed that “diplomatic options remain viable and open, for now,” and that the US “remains committed to finding a peaceful path to denuclearization and to ending belligerent actions by North Korea.” (T/RS5/RS1)
