Sunday Official Holiday Marking Muslim New Year, Palestinian Cabinet

Ramallah, 26 Dzulhijjah 1437/28 September 2016 (MINA) – The Palestinian cabinet announced Tuesday that the coming Sunday is an official holiday marking the Muslim New Year 1438 Hijra.

All government and private institutions will be shut down on that day.

According to WAFA, the decision came during the weekly cabinet meeting held in Ramallah.

Similarly, other Arab and Gulf countries have issued the same announcement on that matter.

It is likely that workers in the region will enjoy a long 3-day weekend and returning to work on October 3 (Monday).

Almost of countries in the region have weekend on Friday and Saturday.

Saudi Arabia, the biggest Arab economy, was the only country of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to have a Thursday-Friday weekend after Oman shifted to a Friday-Saturday weekend last month.

A royal decree was issued Monday changing the official Saudi weekend to Friday and Saturday, a move that will bring the Kingdom’s working week closer to that of other countries and boost international business relations. (T/R07/R01)
