Geneva, 25 Muharram 1437/7  November 2015 (MINA) –  Saudi Arabia has expressed deep concern over continued violence, incitement, hate speeches and discrimination against Muslims in Myanmar.

The Kingdom’s UN representative Faisal bin Hassan Trad called on Myanmar’s government to grant, among other things, full citizenship rights to Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

He was speaking during the periodic review of Myanmar’s human rights situation during the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva,Intrnational Islamic News Agency (IINA) quoted by Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) as reporting.

“The government in Myanmar should restore voting rights to Muslims, allow their right to determine their ethnicity and take all necessary measures to prevent sexual exploitation, including human trafficking,” Trad said.

In addition to cooperation with the international community to ensure the return of all Muslim refugees and displaced persons from their homes, ensure cooperation with all parties and allow full access for humanitarian aid to them, he said.

Trad also called for amending the Citizenship Act, 1982, to include all religious and ethnic minorities, including the Rohingya Muslims, in order to ensure the rights of full and equal citizenship, in addition to removal of policies targeting the Rohingyas in Rakhine state. (T/Imt/R03)
