The transfer of power from Hamas to official Palestinian authorities is so urgent, important, and appropriate, KUNA reported, citing Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova in a statement.
It is difficult to overcome a 10-year long division within a moment, she said, adding that the transitional process requires time and strong political will.
The Russian spokesperson urged the Palestinians to apply a constructive approach in order to attain national unity based on PLO’s political principles and the Arab peaceful initiative.
Accomplishing such an uneasy task would contribute significantly in attaining the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state on the 1967 borders, she said.
