Palestinian Issues Become Priority Discussions at Arab League – EU Summit
Sharm El-Sheikh, MINA – Palestinian issue become a priority discussion agenda of the Arab League-European Union (EU) summit which held Sunday, 24 Feb in the sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
The Palestinian Ambassador to the European Union Abdel Rahim Al-Farra said the EU countries had a positive attitude towards the Palestinian issue.
“All 28 members of the EU reject settlements and refuse to change the status quo in Jerusalem in addition to their support of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees),” said Al-Farra told WAFA.
He stressed the need to find an international mechanism for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
“The final statement of the summit will address the Palestinian issue. The Arab-European Summit, with the participation of the President Mahmoud Abbas, and the presence of 50 Arab and European countries, is historic as it will gather them for the first time,” he said.
Farra added that the summit would discuss many topics of mutual interest, especially terrorism, migration, strategic and economic cooperation. He stressed, the positive attitude of the European Union must be invested in the Summit.
“This is the first platform that brings together heads of state Arab and European governments to address urgent problems, on top of which are terrorism, organized crime and illegal immigration,” he added.
Meanwhile, Diab Al-Louh, Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo and his permanent representative to the Arab League, said President Abbas’s presence was very important, because he would hold several meetings with a number of presidents and officials on the sidelines of the meeting.
“The final statement of the summit will confirm the historic status of the city of East Jerusalem as an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories in 1967,” Louh said.
He stressed that the statement would emphasize the need to end the Israeli occupation and find a fair and comprehensive solution based on the two-state solution and all international legitimacy resolutions related to the Palestinian issue.
“We attach high hopes to this summit to make a major breakthrough in international political positions in favor of the Palestinian cause,” he said. (T/Ais/P2)
