Palestinian Ambassador Calls for Global Solidarity: “Peace Begins in Palestine”

Jakarta, MINA – The Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair S.M. Al-Shun, has called for serious international action to halt the ongoing Zionist Israeli aggression against Palestine.

This call was made during the Global Support and Solidarity Declaration for Palestine event held at the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

“Palestine is a sacred land, the land of the prophets, and the land of peace. However, the Palestinian people continue to live in suffering due to relentless aggression. The world must take real steps to stop this humanitarian tragedy,” emphasized Zuhair Al-Shun.

In his speech, the Palestinian Ambassador made two key demands to the international community. First, he called for effective global pressure on Israel to halt its aggression and respect international law.

“No entity is above the law,” he stressed.

Second, he called for heightened global awareness to end the suffering of the Palestinian people. This, he stated, could be achieved by realizing Palestine’s inalienable rights, including the right to return to their homeland, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.

Zuhair also expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s steadfast support for Palestine’s struggle for independence.

“We are deeply grateful to His Excellency President Prabowo Subianto, his government, the parliament, and all the people of Indonesia for their principled stance in supporting Palestine’s struggle,” he said.

He concluded his speech with a profound message: “Peace begins in Palestine, and war also originates from Palestine.”

This statement reflects the importance of resolving the Palestine-Israel conflict as a key to regional and international stability.

The event also served as a reminder of the suffering endured by the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, over the past 15 months due to the ongoing genocidal aggression.

“This crime not only brings physical destruction but also economic, social, and humanitarian suffering that is difficult to measure,” added Ambassador Zuhair.

Through his call, Ambassador Zuhair hopes that the international community will unite to stop Israel’s aggressive policies and support the Palestinian people in their struggle for independence and a just peace.

During the event, the Palestinian Ambassador invited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and humanitarian organizations in Indonesia, such as the Aqsa Working Group (AWG), Maemuna Center, Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), and Adara Relief.

The event aimed to strengthen support for the Palestinian people’s struggle to obtain their rights and foster international solidarity.

Through this initiative, Ambassador Zuhair hopes to strengthen the relationship between the international community and the Palestinian people, particularly through NGO contributions in advocating for humanitarian issues.

“The active participation of various NGOs in Indonesia is expected to have a significant impact, both in terms of awareness campaigns and concrete actions to support peace and justice in Palestine,” he concluded.

The declaration of support and solidarity for Palestine was attended by several prominent figures, including Mardani Ali Sera, Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Ahrul Tsani Fathurrahman, Director of the Middle East at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and KH Ulil Abshar Abdalla (Gus Ulil), Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Supreme Council (PBNU).
