OIC Approves Draft Resolution to List FETO as Terrorist Group

Jeddah, 23 Syawwal 1437/28 July 2016 (MINA) – Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) approved a draft resolution to list Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETO) as a terrorist organization, upon the request of Turkey.

This announcement was carried by International Islamic News Agency (IINA) on Wednesday and it was made during a preparatory meeting for OIC Foreign Ministers, scheduled in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent in October.

The decision was unanimously made by the OIC member states, except for Egypt, which was “discreet” until some “legal measures” are discussed.

Ankara accuses Gulen’s FETO movement of orchestrating a coup attempt on July 15 in which FETO-linked military personnel attempted — unsuccessfully — to overthrow Turkey’s elected government.

At least 246 people, including civilians and security personnel, were martyred — and more than 2,100 injured — during the illegal putsch attempt.

Gulen and his followers are also accused of attempting to infiltrate Turkey’s vital state institutions — especially the military, police apparatus and judiciary — with the ultimate aim of creating a parallel state.  (T/R07/R01)
