UNRWA’s activities in helping to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Ramallah, 17 ramadaan 1438/12 June 2017 (MINA) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that it was time to dismantle the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said that he told the US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley that the time has come for the UN to put an end to UNRWA, KUNA reported, citing Jewish media.
Meanwhile, UNRWA announced last week that a tunnel under two of its schools in Gaza was uncovered.
The Israeli Prime Minister slammed Hamas for “using children as human shields and attacking innocent people.”
UNRWA was established by the UN General Assembly in 1949 and provides aid to around 5 million Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. (T/RS5/RS1)
