Geneva, MINA – Kuwaiti Ambassador, Jamal Al-Ghunaim rejected the sharing of control and space for Al-Aqsa Mosque area by Israeli occupation.

The calls were made in a speech at the United Nations Human Rights Council about a report by the Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Permanent Representative of the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Monday, March 18, according to KUNA News Agency.

Al-Ghunaim said that “the division of control of the Al-Aqsa Mosque” could threaten to spark religious tensions.

Division is only a deliberate step of Israeli provocation and a way to invade the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

“Kuwait state Israel has provided political and economic incentives to encourage its citizens to settle illegally in the occupied territories, in an effort to strengthen occupation and change its geographical and demographic status,” he added.

“This is part of the continuation of Judaization of the city of Jerusalem and its historical and religious site changes, as well as plans for the continuation of excavations under the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This is a clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, “he said.

Kuwait also condemned Israeli forces’ attacks on the Palestinians and striking violations of human rights law and international humanitarian law, especially murder, land grabbing, demolition of houses and other violations.

“This violation is a war crime and crime against humanity, which demands accountability for the perpetrators,” he said.

“Failure to participate in the seventh item of the United Nations Human Rights Council and efforts to ignore it will encourage Tel Aviv to continue in violation of international law,” he stressed.

He called on the international community to press Tel Aviv to fulfill its relevant legal responsibilities, and immediately end its violations of the rights of the Palestinian people.

Kuwait also urged the release thousands of prisoners, the lifting of an unjust blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, the opening of crossings, and the lifting of military checkpoints in the Palestinian territories. (T/Sj/P2)
