KOREA EXPECTS ONE HALAL AGENCY WORLDWIDE
Jakarta, 7 Safar 1437/19 November 2015 (MINA) – Of the nearly 1,000 halal agencies in the world, there is a necessity to unify similar institutions around the world into a single institution for a more universal purposes.
Managing Director of the Korea Institute of Halal Industry (KIHI) Kim Jin Woo said in an interview with Mi’raj Islamic News Agency (MINA) recently in Jakarta that so far among the respective regulatory agencies are different from each other, whereas they basically have the same functions to provide halal certification in accordance with Islamic values on all consumer goods.
“Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and others, have different regulatory processes, so it is difficult.”
The man who had converted to Islam only month ago explained that issues of halal is very important, not only for Muslims as it relates to the Islamic teachings, but also has great prospects for the countries of non-Muslims because many tourists are now halal oriented toward what they see.
“This is a great business for those countries,” he added.
Halal industry has the potential of reaching a value of two billion dollars to around 1.8 billion Muslim population worldwide
During his visit to Jakarta on the third day, Kim visited some locations such as Indonesia Halal Products Foundation (YPHI), The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI), BPPOM, and the Istiqlal Grand Mosque for consultation and discussing issues relating to halal and Islam.(L/P008/R07)
