Jusuf Kalla Receives Award for His Excellence in Peace Diplomacy
Jakarta, MINA – The Former of Indonesian Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla received the “Award for Excellence in Diplomacy” for his contribution to the implementation of diplomacy, in an event that took place at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday.
The awarding is the result of more than a decade of collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sekar Manggis Foundation to disseminate the broadest importance of diplomacy as a means of peace.
The event was opened by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mahendra Siregar and attended by around 200 invitations consisting of national figures and Ambassadors of friendly countries and also Meutia Hatta, the Chair of Jury this year.
In his remarks, the Deputy Minister stated that the awarding ceremony was a promotion of the achievements and results of Indonesian diplomacy and a message about the importance of Indonesian diplomacy as an instrument of peace.
In addition, as a tribute to Indonesia’s central figures who played a major role in diplomacy. “Mr. Jusuf Kalla is a superior negotiator and a symbol of our pride and his work has been tested in humanitarian missions and peace efforts,” he said.
Sekar Manggis Foundation was founded by senior diplomat or national hero, Dr. Idea Anak Agung Gde Agung, who had served as Foreign Minister and Minister of the Interior in the 1950s.
The award was an acknowledgment of JK’s important contribution in the world of diplomacy, both domestically and internationally by resolving various problems, such as the conflict in Aceh, riots in Poso, conflicts between Pattani Muslims and the Thai Government in Southern Thailand.
Other Indonesian national figures who have received this award include Muhammad Hatta, Adam Malik, Mochtar Kusumaatmadja and Ali Alatas. (L/RE1)
